Start by understanding the question
In the penetrative-sex context used by this quiz, top means the penetrating role and bottom means receiving penetration. Vers means interest in both roles. These words are not tests of confidence, masculinity, femininity, or how outgoing you are.
Some lesbian and other communities also use top and bottom to discuss giving and receiving sexual stimulation. If that is the context you mean, ask about the activities themselves rather than assuming that penetration is the whole question.
Curiosity is information, even before you have a firm preference
You may know that one role interests you, feel curious about both, or have no interest in either. You do not have to turn an interest into a permanent label. ‘I’m curious about this but I don’t know yet’ is already a clear answer.
When answering the quiz, choose the option closest to your current interest. There is a separate question about whether that interest comes from experience or curiosity; it does not assign a role by itself.
Choose unsure when the answer is genuinely unclear
Not having experience does not automatically make you unsure if you already know what interests you. Equally, choosing unsure does not mean that both roles interest you. Vers and uncertainty are different answers.
If your answers point in conflicting directions, the quiz keeps the result open. You can return later if you find different words for your interests. Repeating the quiz until you get a preferred label does not make the label more accurate.
Avoid borrowing a preference from a stereotype
Being shy does not establish that you want to bottom. Being assertive does not establish that you want to top. A confident bottom and a gentle top are both possible because personality and sexual role are different dimensions.
A partner’s preference is also not a reason to claim an interest you do not have. If you want to say what you know without overcommitting, try: ‘This role interests me, this one doesn’t, and these parts are still undecided.’
If neither penetrative role interests you
The quiz offers a result for preferring sex without penetration. You can explore the meaning of side as a related term, especially in gay male contexts, without assuming it must be your label.
Not wanting a particular activity is a valid preference on its own. The quiz does not require an intention to try it later, and it does not treat a lack of interest as a problem to solve.
Use the result as a draft of your own words
A useful result helps you say what interests you now. It cannot tell you what you must try, who you should date, or what label you must keep. Share a result only if you want to disclose that label.
You can also read the term definitions or compatibility guide first. Neither requires a quiz result, an account, or a record of your sexual experience.
